The University of Padua, one of the top universities in Padua, Italy, has a rich history that begins with its founding in 1222. The University of Padua is the fifth-oldest still in operation and the second-oldest in Italy. A group of professors and students from the University of Bologna founded it.
Historically, the University of Padua has stood for intellectual eminence, particularly during the early modern period of European history. In the contemporary academic landscape, the University of Padua continues to be a bright spot. In the 2023 U.S. News & World Report’s World Best Global Universities Rankings, it is recognized as the top institution in Italy, placing it at number 43 in Europe and 115th overall.
According to ARWU, the school is among the top four in Italy for 2023. The University of Padua is the fourth-ranked university in Italy and ranks between 201st and 250th overall in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2024. The institution is ranked first in Italy for geology and geophysics, biological sciences, earth and marine sciences, psychology, anatomy, and physiology in the QS World Institution Rankings for 2024. It comes in fourth place overall in Italy. In addition, the university is placed 219th in the world by the QS World University Rankings for 2024. Within the medical field, it is ranked 125th.
As part of its commitment to fostering academic excellence, the University of Padua introduced a scholarship program for highly talented prospective students seeking to pursue Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees conducted entirely in English. The scholarship program is notably selective, with only candidates exhibiting outstanding achievements and academic records being eligible. Successful scholars are expected to fulfill an ambassadorial role, representing the university at various events.
The scholarship, a prestigious offering, includes a fee waiver and a €8,000 scholarship (gross amount) for each academic year. Beneficiary students are only required to pay an admission fee, covering the regional tax and marca da bollo. This scholarship program stands as a testament to the university’s commitment to nurturing academic talent and fostering a vibrant international academic community.

Eligibility Criteria for the University of Padua Excellence Scholarship
If you meet the standards below, you may be considered for the selection procedure, under penalty of exclusion.
- Not be an Italian citizen (unless they are dual citizens with Italian citizenship);
- Possess a non-Italian foreign secondary school diploma that permits entry to the Italian university system (for candidates seeking bachelor’s or single-cycle degrees) or a non-Italian bachelor’s degree (for applicants seeking master’s degrees);
- Do not reside in Italy;
- Apply to one or more of the University of Padua’s fully English-taught degree programs listed above. Please keep in mind that you are eligible to apply to three-degree programs.
Who can apply: highly talented future international students from all over the world wishing to enroll in one of the University of Padua Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees completely held in English.
