Simmons University, formerly known as Simmons College, is a private institution located in Boston, Massachusetts. John Simmons, a clothesmaker, founded it in 1899. It revamped its organization and changed its name to a university in 2018. Its undergraduate curriculum is geared at women, whereas its graduate programs are co-ed.
Students from Boston public high schools and charter schools who have achieved academic success are recognized with the Simmons University Boston Scholarship, a competitive merit award.

The Boston Scholarship offers complete tuition for four years. Recipients are expected to reside on campus and maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average while attending Simmons.
Eligibility Criteria for Simmons University Boston Scholarship
Applicants are advised to meet the following requirements to be qualified for Simmons University Boston Scholarship:
- Now enroll in a Boston charter school or public high school
- Possess a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (recalculated).
- You have the option to provide your standardized test results with your admissions application, as Simmons does not require tests. If test takers want to submit their results, an ACT score of 21 or higher and a SAT score of 1080 or higher are advised.
- Have shown themselves to be creative, engaged, globally minded, resilient, or possess other traits that point to their capacity to have a positive impact on Simmons’ varied community
Interview Date, Process, and Venue for Simmons University Boston Scholarship
Part I: Nomination Letter (optional)
A guidance counselor, college counselor, community champion, headmaster, or instructor should write a letter of nomination for a student. It is also an option for students to nominate themselves. The pupils’ entire name and birthdate should be on each page of the nomination letter. The nomination letter must contain the nominee’s complete name, title, phone number, email address, and postal address.
Included in the letter should be the following:
- The nominee’s justification for believing the student deserves to win this scholarship
- Emphasize and evaluate the student’s community service projects.
- An evaluation of the potential of the student at Simmons University
- Any other details the nominee would like the committee to be aware of before evaluating the student
Part II: Essay
The essay portion of the application is a response to the following prompt. By January 10, students should email their essays in Word or PDF format with the subject “Boston Scholarship Application.” The entire name and birthdate of the student should be on every page of the paper.
Please be aware that the school will not convert or accept files that are not compatible (such as Google Docs, Pages, etc.). The student must present a workable file in the appropriate format (such as Word or PDF).
Essay Prompt
- Essay (no more than 500 words): Is access to a quality education a privilege or a right? Why do you believe that? To justify your response, provide precise justifications and instances.
Part III: On-Campus Interview
Interview: Email invitations to schedule interviews will be sent to the finalists. The university encourages applicants to set up in-person interviews, but virtual interviews will also be an option. Usually, interview days take place across February. Following scheduling, finalists will get an email confirming the day and time of their interview.
Application Procedure for Simmons University Boston Scholarship
Applicants must submit both their Boston Scholarship application and their admission application by January 10 to be eligible for this scholarship. Three components make up the application process: an essay, an on-campus interview, and a nomination letter. Enroll in the program by sending an email with all required materials and the subject “Boston Scholarship Application.”
Additionally, by February 1st, students should have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), if appropriate. Simmons’ federal school code is 002208.
