University of Leeds School of Sociology and Social Policy International Excellence Scholarships, UK 2024
The University of Leeds is accepting applications for its partially funded School of Sociology and Social Policy International Excellence Scholarships.
About the University of Leeds and Scholarship
The University of Leeds has deep historical ties woven into the fabric of Leeds’ emergence as a global center for the textile and clothing industry during the Victorian era in the United Kingdom. Its inception is intertwined with the establishment of schools of medicine across English cities, reflecting a commitment to public service.
The journey began with the formation of the Victoria University in Manchester in 1880, envisioned as a federal university for the North of England. Rather than elevating Owens College in Manchester to university status and granting it a royal charter, the decision was made to create the Victoria University. Owens College initially stood as the sole member college until 1884 when Yorkshire College became the third institution to join the university.
Leeds officially became a university on November 3, 1887, with the inclusion of Yorkshire College in the federal Victoria University. The university found itself in an educational alliance with Manchester and Liverpool, sharing a common mission to advance knowledge and education.
Over the years, the University of Leeds has forged educational partnerships, including the formal accreditation of degree awards for institutions like Leeds College of Art and Leeds Trinity University College. The ties extend to the College of the Resurrection, an Anglican theological college in Mirfield, which, since its establishment in 1904, has been affiliated with the university. The university is also a founding member of the Northern Consortium.
In August 2010, the university played a pivotal role in the UCAS clearing process, being one of the most sought-after institutions for students entering the process for 2010 admission. It was among the Russell Group universities offering limited places to exceptional students, highlighting its prestige and demand.
Recognizing and nurturing academic excellence, the University of Leeds offers competitive scholarships to international candidates who showcase outstanding academic achievement. These scholarships, such as the School of Sociology and Social Policy International Masters Excellence Scholarships, not only support students in realizing their academic potential but also contribute to the rich social and cultural diversity of the university community. The university’s commitment to excellence and inclusivity is further underscored by its receipt of the Queen’s Anniversary Prize in 2009 for services to engineering and technology.
