Scholarship AINSE ANSTO French Embassies (SAAFE) Research Internship Program, Australia 2024

Application is now open for the Scholarship AINSE ANSTO French Embassies (SAAFE) Research Internship Program. Interested candidates are encouraged to send their applications in before the deadline date.

About AINSE and the Program

Founded in 1958, the Australian Institute of Nuclear Science and Engineering Inc. (AINSE) has played a pivotal role in shaping collaborative initiatives in nuclear science and engineering across Australia. Originally established to facilitate access to the unique research facilities at Lucas Heights for universities and tertiary institutions, AINSE has evolved into a multifaceted organization fostering cooperation and advancement in nuclear science.

The heart of nuclear science and engineering activities lies in the world-class facilities at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation’s (ANSTO) campuses in Lucas Heights, Camperdown, and Clayton. These facilities contribute to research spanning a diverse range of disciplines, including advanced materials, agriculture, archaeology, biology, chemistry, environmental protection, geology, medicine, mining, nanotechnology, manufacturing, and physics.

A significant milestone in AINSE’s recent history is the establishment of the SAAFE program in 2017. The SAAFE (Supporting Advanced Australian and French Endeavors) program catalyzes collaborative research ventures between France and Australia, specifically in the domains of Health, Environment, and Nuclear Technologies. This program has been instrumental in fostering meaningful research collaborations and creating a platform for knowledge exchange and advancement in the nuclear sciences.

In a move reflective of its commitment to inclusivity and global collaboration, the SAAFE program expanded its horizons in 2022. The program now extends its support to postgraduate students and postdoctoral researchers from AINSE New Zealand universities, fostering an even broader network of collaborative research endeavors.

At its core, the SAAFE program is dedicated to supporting Early Career Researchers at both the Ph.D. and postdoctoral levels. By facilitating travel opportunities for researchers from Australia and New Zealand to France, as well as reciprocally from France to Australia, the program aims to initiate sustainable research networks and linkages. This not only enhances the professional development of the researchers involved but also contributes to the global landscape of nuclear science and engineering.
