About Regent’s University London and Scholarship
In 1984, Rockford College in Illinois, now known as Rockford University, acquired the former South Villa Estate campus of the University of London’s Bedford College in Regent’s Park and christened the new institution Regent’s College. The historic site, initially leased by Bedford College in 1908, featured buildings designed by the renowned architect Basil Champneys, officially opened by Queen Mary in 1913.
Over the years, modifications and expansions were made, particularly after sustaining damage during the Second World War. In 1985, Bedford College merged with Royal Holloway College, prompting the relocation to Royal Holloway’s campus in Egham, Surrey, and vacating the premises in Regent’s Park. The subsequent growth of Regent’s College saw the European Business School London joining its campus in 1987.
A significant milestone was achieved in July 2012 when Regent’s College was granted taught degree-awarding powers (TDAP), designating it as a “recognized body” among the over 150 institutions with degree-awarding powers in the UK. In February 2013, Regent’s College expanded its academic landscape by acquiring American InterContinental University London from Career Education Corporation. By March 2013, the UK’s Department for Business Innovation and Skills acknowledged that Regent’s College met the criteria to attain university status. The university earned a silver rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) in the 2021 rankings.
The validation of research degrees (MPhil and PhD) underwent a transition from the University of Wales to the University of Northampton, starting with students enrolling in September 2016. This shift followed the University of Wales’ decision to withdraw from validating other institutions as part of its merger with the University of Wales Trinity Saint David.
Regent’s University London offers a diverse array of courses in business, liberal arts, fashion design, and marketing. As of February 2022, undergraduate course fees range from approximately £18,500 to £21,000 per annum. Financial records for the year ending June 30, 2021, indicate that Regent’s University London had a total income of £31.62 million and a total expenditure of £28.98 million. The university, with an international student body hailing from 140 countries, demonstrates its global appeal. Fifteen percent of students at Regent’s are from Britain, while another forty percent come from the European Union. Additionally, fifteen percent of students represent the United States.
Recognizing and rewarding the loyalty of its students, Regent’s University London offers the PhD Progression Scholarships, specifically designed for undergraduate or taught postgraduate students progressing to enroll in a PhD program within the university. This initiative reflects the institution’s commitment to fostering academic continuity and supporting students in their educational journey.
