Eligible Courses: All full-time undergraduate courses are taught at the Coach Lane and Newcastle Upon Tyne campuses. The scholarship will not be awarded this year if you decide to participate in a placement year.

Eligibility Criteria for Northumbria University Instrumental Scholarships

Candidates are advised to meet the following conditions to be eligible for Northumbria University Instrumental Scholarships:

  • Qualified Countries: UK/Home students
  • Admissible Course or Subjects: Full-time undergraduate courses at the Newcastle Upon Tyne campus and Coach Lane campus
  • Acceptable Criteria:
    • Need to be a home or UK student
    • Must have submitted an application for a Full-Time Undergraduate program beginning in September 2024 (Students in their Foundation Year are also eligible).
    • By June 6, 2024, Northumbria University has to be selected as the official choice.
    • Payment administration requires registration with Student Finance England (SFE), Student Finance Wales (SFW), or Student Finance Northern Ireland (SFNI).
    • For maintenance support, Scottish students must apply through the Students Award Agency for Scotland (SAAS).
    • All full-time undergraduate courses offered at the designated campuses are eligible, except for the placement year.
    • Students who succeed must be proficient musicians by the time they reach grade 7.
    • Participate in performances during the academic year and dedicate up to four hours per week to rehearsal.
    • Rehearsals and performances are required, and progress is tracked
    • Withdrawal from the scholarship is allowed, but any unpaid monies will not be paid
    • Enroll by September 30, 2024, to receive the scholarship
    • Payment structure: 25% in November 2024, 25% in February 2025, and 50% in May 2025
    • Payments are based on promotion to the next year and adherence to scholarship terms and conditions
    • The university will withhold the scholarship payout if there is outstanding debt.
    • Northumbria University maintains the right to discontinue the program at any time.
    • There is no right of appeal for the University’s decision, which is final.

Application Procedure for Northumbria University Instrumental Scholarships

  • This scholarship program has a competitive selection procedure. Applicants should fill out the application form. Those who are selected for further consideration must either attend the audition in person or submit a brief video audition in which they play an instrument.
  • The application asks applicants to ‘Describe your musical experience to date and how you would contribute to instrumental music-making on campus’ in no more than 1500 characters.
  • The successful candidates will be notified after enrollment in October 2024.
