For the academic year 2024–2025, foreign students from all around the world who are interested in pursuing Ph.D. research studies at Monash University, Australia, are eligible to apply for the Monash University – Museums Victoria PhD Research Scholarship. $5,000 will be given each year as a stipend under this PhD scholarship.

Monash University and Museums Victoria have teamed together to form the Robert Blackwood partnership, which aims to promote and support the development of fresh research project concepts and activities that result in high-impact partnerships and sizable outside financing.

(Subject to qualifying candidates) Two scholarships each year:

  • One in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines

Eligibility Criteria for Museums Victoria PhD Research Scholarship

Applicants are advised to meet the following conditions to be eligible for the Museums Victoria PhD Research Scholarship at Monash University:

  • Language Requirement:
  1. IELTS: (6.5) overall (no band lower than 6.0); TOEFL: (79 +) Reading 13, Listening 12, Speaking 18, & Writing 21; both are required for the General category of the English Language Test.
  2. IELTS requires a minimum overall score of (7) (no band lower than 6.5), and a score of (94+) for the disciplines of arts, business, and economics. The TOEFL scores for speaking, listening, and writing are all 20.
  • All nations are eligible.
  • Enrolled as a new or continuing full-time PhD student at a Monash campus in Australia for Research Quarter 1 (the following year).
  • Working on initiatives that either have a significant focus on a specific aspect of the Museums Victoria collection or are jointly supervised by Monash and Museums Victoria.
  • Candidates must quickly fulfill all course requirements (such as milestones) within the first two years of candidacy.
  • A research component is typically included in the fourth year of a bachelor’s degree that requires at least four years of full-time study in a relevant subject and results in honors 1 or 2A in that area.
  • A course of study that results in a level that the relevant department, faculty, and committee have decided to be equivalent to an honors 1 or 2A in the relevant field.
  • A master’s degree takes at least 25% of one full-time equivalent year of work, including a thesis, and is frequently accompanied by a significant amount of research. An honors 2A grade is often expected for a research thesis or project. If there is no grade, the examiners’ reports will be taken into consideration.
  • Have qualifications that, in GRC’s opinion, are comparable.
  • Scholarships are awarded based on an applicant’s academic performance, published research, and prior research experience.
  • Have never had a Postgraduate Research Award from Monash or the Australian Government for more than six months.

To maintain this scholarship:

  • You must follow Monash University’s RTP Scholarship rules and regulations.
  • You need to be ready to participate in activities that support the Robert Blackwood Partnership, such as research seminars and advertising campaigns.
  • You will be required to produce a report on your collaboration with Museums-Victoria after your thesis has been turned in.

  • Evidence that you fulfill the criteria for English language proficiency

Application Process for Museums Victoria PhD Research Scholarship

Please follow the steps listed below to apply for the Monash University – Museums Victoria PhD Research Scholarship:

  • You must discuss your plan with an appropriate Museums Victoria curator.
  • You must provide both a letter of support from Museums Victoria and a written reference (no longer than one A4 page) from your potential or current supervisors outlining the importance and quality of the project as part of your application.
  • Fill out the scholarship application form.
