About the University of Cambridge and Studentship
Nestled in the historic city of Cambridge, England, the University of Cambridge stands as a venerable beacon of academic excellence, tracing its roots back to its founding in 1209. As the world’s third-oldest university in continuous operation, Cambridge has carved a distinguished place in the annals of higher education. Its inception was marked by the migration of scholars from the University of Oxford to Cambridge following a dispute with the local townspeople. Despite being occasionally described as rivals, these two ancient English universities, collectively known as Oxbridge, share common features and a rich intellectual legacy.
The University of Cambridge is an academic powerhouse, comprised of 31 semi-autonomous constituent colleges and over 150 academic departments, faculties, and institutions organized into six schools. Its commitment to excellence is reflected in its consistent top-tier rankings globally. Routinely placed among the top five universities worldwide, Cambridge has often been hailed as the best. In the QS Rankings of 2023, it secured the second position globally, only surpassed by MIT, asserting its status as the premier European university.
Cambridge’s academic prowess extends across diverse disciplines, each earning accolades in international rankings. The Arts and Humanities program is esteemed as the second-best globally, while the Engineering and Technology program follows suit in this prestigious ranking. The Life Sciences and Medicine program is recognized as the fourth-best, emphasizing Cambridge’s prominence in the field. Additionally, the Natural Sciences program is heralded as the third-best globally, while the Social Sciences and Management program stands at the fourth position.
In a testament to its commitment to fostering scholarly pursuits, the University of Cambridge introduces the Krishnan-Ang Ph.D. Studentships in Natural Sciences for Overseas Students for the upcoming academic year, 2024/2025. This initiative aims to support outstanding Overseas candidates embarking on a doctoral journey in Natural Sciences at Cambridge. The studentships are generously funded by Eashwar Viswanathan Krishnan and Tzo Tze Ang, Trinity College undergraduates, who, through their donations, seek to honor their academic ventures in Natural Sciences and Electrical & Information Sciences. This scholarship not only underscores the university’s dedication to nurturing academic brilliance but also serves as a beacon for future scholars seeking to contribute to the global academic landscape.
