About the University Of Brighton and Scholarship

The University of Brighton stands as a beacon of academic excellence with roots dating back to 1858 when the Brighton School of Art first opened its doors in the Royal Pavilion. Today, this public university spans four campuses in Brighton and Eastbourne, offering a vibrant and dynamic environment for students and scholars alike.

One of the notable initiatives championed by the University of Brighton is the Forward Bound Scholarships. These scholarships are meticulously designed to provide support to health and other professionals who are not only committed to their craft but are also poised to influence health promotion practice and policy upon their return to their respective roles.

At the core of the Forward Bound scholarships is a resounding objective – to empower recipients with the knowledge and experience garnered from their Master’s programs. The aim is for these scholars to return to their countries of origin equipped to make a tangible and transformative difference in communities through effective health promotion practices, both professionally and through voluntary capacities.

The scholarship itself encompasses a comprehensive funding package covering various aspects, ensuring that financial barriers do not impede the pursuit of knowledge and the subsequent application of skills. This support spans course fees, travel costs, accommodation, visa expenses, subsistence, and health insurance, providing a robust foundation for a 12-month academic journey.

The financial commitment of £28,000 per scholarship underscores the university’s dedication to facilitating an immersive and impactful educational experience for those chosen to be Forward Bound Scholars. With two scholarships available for the upcoming academic year (2024/25), the University of Brighton is actively seeking individuals whose aspirations align with the scholarship’s vision of fostering positive change through health promotion.

Eligibility Criteria for University Of Brighton Forward Bound Scholarships for Health Promotion

Applicants from low-income and lower-middle-income nations who do not have access to comparable postgraduate education opportunities in public health and health promotion are eligible for the Forward Bound Scholarship.

To be eligible for the Forward Bound Scholarship, you must be living and/or working in a low-income or low-middle-income nation as defined by the World Bank, and you must have been offered a spot on the Health Promotion MSc program (you must have applied before 30 April 2024). Applicants who live or work in nations where MSc programs are offered are not eligible for the scholarship (currently The Gambia, Ghana, and Nigeria).

Typically, candidates would be employed in public health or health promotion in a professional position. In extreme circumstances, applications with impact from unpaid positions, such as those with volunteer organizations or other health-related jobs, might also be taken into consideration.

Please be aware that applicants are not eligible to apply if they have already had the chance to study in the UK (or any other higher-income nation specified in the terms and conditions).

Applicants must have an IELTS overall score of 6.5, and a minimum of 5.5 in each area (writing, reading, speaking, listening).

Selection Criteria

This scholarship is extremely competitive, and the course leader has invited you to apply.

Applicants receive the following invitation to apply for the scholarship:

  • Candidates with a degree in a field directly related to health promotion (public health, nutrition, sports science, or health sciences), relevant work experience or volunteerism, a compelling personal statement, and an idea of how the Health Promotion MSc might improve their future work for their nation or community are encouraged to apply.
  • In addition, candidates with degrees in fields such as psychology, social sciences, or behavioral sciences are taken into consideration due to their outstanding personal statement, work experience, and volunteerism.
  • Only candidates with substantial experience and a compelling personal statement outlining their involvement in the above-mentioned health promotion and vision will be given consideration, even if their degrees are unrelated to the position (such as biosciences, business, or lab technology).
  • Applicants who already hold a degree that is regarded as comparable to a master’s degree from the UK are unlikely to qualify for a Student Visa and are not generally encouraged to apply.

Please be aware that the choice made by the Forward Bound Scholarship Award Committee is final.
