About Flinders University and Bursary

Flinders University, a prominent public research institution situated in Adelaide, South Australia, stands as a testament to academic excellence and a commitment to advancing knowledge. Established in 1966, the university’s nomenclature pays homage to the renowned British navigator Matthew Flinders, celebrated for his exploration and surveying of the Australian and South Australian coastline during the early 19th century.

The picturesque main campus of Flinders University is nestled in Bedford Park, situated in the southern precinct of Adelaide. Spanning a sprawling 156 acres adorned with lush gardens and native bushland, the campus provides a verdant and serene environment conducive to learning. Beyond its main campus, Flinders extends its reach across 11 locations in South Australia and the Northern Territory, including Tonsley, Adelaide Central Business District, Renmark, Alice Springs, and Darwin. As a proud member of the Innovative Research Universities (IRU) Group, Flinders University remains at the forefront of cutting-edge research and academic innovation.

Flinders University has garnered national acclaim, particularly for leading the nation in postgraduate employment outcomes, as highlighted in the 2021 Graduate Outcome Survey – Longitudinal. The Australian Government’s Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching underscored the university’s commitment to delivering quality education.

The main campus in Bedford Park is a hub of academic pursuits, complemented by a prominent presence in Victoria Square in the heart of Adelaide and the Tonsley Innovation District. Furthermore, the university maintains external teaching facilities in various regional locations, including South Australia, southwest Victoria, and the Northern Territory. With international students constituting a significant portion of the on-campus population, Flinders University has established offshore programs, primarily catering to the Asia-Pacific region.

In line with its dedication to fostering inclusivity and supporting educational aspirations, Flinders University proudly announces the Erica Jolly Indigenous Bursary. This philanthropic initiative is made possible through a generous donation from esteemed alumna Erica Jolly, a Companion of the University. The Erica Jolly Indigenous Bursary is designed to encourage and empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to embark on higher education journeys, specifically in the field of education, with a focus on special education.
