About Regent’s University London and Scholarship
Regent’s University London, rooted in a rich history dating back to the acquisition of the former South Villa Estate campus of the University of London’s Bedford College in Regent’s Park in 1984, has evolved into a dynamic institution known for its diverse academic offerings and global reach. After the acquisition, the university—which was then known as Regent’s College—grew gradually over the years, creating a thriving academic community in the gorgeous Regent’s Park.
The site itself has a rich history; it was leased by Bedford College in 1908, and new buildings designed by architect Basil Champneys were officially opened by Queen Mary in 1913. These buildings saw alterations and expansions throughout time, especially following their destruction during World War II. Regent’s College gained pace after Bedford College and Royal Holloway College merged in 1985, and in 1987 it welcomed the European Business School London to its campus.
The acquisition of taught degree-awarding rights (TDAP) in July 2012, which established Regent’s College as a “recognized body” in the UK’s higher education system, was a momentous occasion. This accolade made it possible for the university to increase the range of academic programs it offers. Regent’s College expanded its worldwide reach in February 2013 with the strategic acquisition of American InterContinental University London from Career Education Corporation.
The path to university status culminated in March 2013, when Regent’s College met the requirements to become a university, as verified by the UK Department for Business Innovation and Skills. The school’s commitment to offering top-notch instruction was validated when the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) awarded it a silver rating in the 2021 ranking, emphasizing this change.
A comprehensive range of business, liberal arts, marketing, and fashion design degrees are still offered by Regent’s University London. As of right now, Regent is a member of a network that spans 80 campuses and 42 institutions in 13 countries, including renowned universities in Germany, Italy, France, and Mexico. Galileo Global Education has controlled the network since September 2020. In keeping with this global connectivity is Regent’s commitment to giving students an education that is globally focused and prepares them for success in a connected world.
