About Flinders University and Scholarship
Flinders University stands as a beacon of academic excellence and research innovation. Established in 1966, the university carries the name of the illustrious British navigator Matthew Flinders, renowned for his exploration and surveying of the Australian and South Australian coastline in the early 19th century.
The heart of Flinders University, the main campus at Bedford Park in Adelaide’s south, spans 156 acres of lush gardens and native bushland, creating an idyllic and verdant educational environment. The commitment to excellence extends across 11 locations in South Australia and the Northern Territory, with campuses including Tonsley, Adelaide Central Business District, Renmark, Alice Springs, and Darwin. As a proud member of the Innovative Research Universities (IRU) Group, Flinders is at the forefront of groundbreaking research and academic achievements.
In 2021, Flinders University showcased its dedication to student success by leading the nation in postgraduate employment outcomes, as highlighted in the Graduate Outcome Survey – Longitudinal by the Australian Government’s Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching. This achievement underscores the university’s commitment to providing students with not only a robust academic foundation but also a pathway to thriving careers.
A significant milestone in Flinders’ journey occurred in 2015 with the establishment of a new campus at Tonsley, situated on the former site of the Mitsubishi Motors Australia plant in Southern Adelaide. This cutting-edge campus is home to the School of Computer Science, Engineering, and Mathematics, the Medical Device Research Institute, the Flinders Institute for Nanoscale Science & Technology, and the technology start-up company Re-Timer, exemplifying Flinders University’s forward-looking approach to education and research.
