Auckland University of Technology AUT Undergraduate International Exchange Scholarship, New Zealand for 2023

Application is now open for the Auckland University of Technology AUT Undergraduate International Exchange Scholarship. Interested candidates are encouraged to send their applications in before the deadline date.

About Auckland University of Technology and Scholarship

AUT was established in 1895 as the evening-only Auckland Technical School. In 1906, daytime programs were introduced, and the institution’s name was changed to Auckland Technical College. It was given the new name Seddon Memorial Technical College in 1913.

Secondary and tertiary instruction were separated as a consequence of educational reforms in the early 1960s; two educational institutions were created; the tertiary (polytechnic) adopted the name Auckland Technical Institute (ATI) in 1963, while the secondary school kept the same name. They coexisted in the same location for three years, but by 1964 the secondary school had relocated to Western Springs, where it would later become Western Springs College. ATI changed its name to Auckland Institute of Technology (AIT) in 1989, and when university status was conferred in 2000, the current name was chosen.

The position of university chancellor was held by Sir Paul Reeves from 2005 until his passing in 2011. In July 2019, controversy erupted after AUT canceled a commemoration of the Tiananmen Square tragedy. It was claimed that this was a result of pressure from the Chinese government since Chinese officials had contact with the institution. Although this assertion has been strongly questioned, especially by several university personnel, AUT denied that China had coerced them.

Stuff reported in late October 2022 that AUT planned to fire 250 full-time employees, including 170 academic staff and 80 professional personnel. AUT had already declared intentions to let go of 230 employees in early September 2022. Vice-Chancellor Damon Salesa of the university blamed the layoffs on escalating wage expenses, dwindling government support, and a predicted drop in student enrollments in 2023.

The AUT International Group is happy to be able to provide a scholarship to students who wish to participate in an international exchange program at one of the AUT exchange partner universities.

The AUT Undergraduate International Exchange Scholarship is designed to assist students whose ability to participate in an exchange would be hampered by financial constraints.
