Monash University (/mnae/) is a public research university with its headquarters in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It was established in 1958 and is the second-oldest university in the state, bearing the name of a notable World War I general, Sir John Monash.

The Sir James McNeill Postgraduate Research Award is a fully financed award for overseas students. This award is available for master’s and doctorate research programs. This scholarship offers an annual living allowance of $36,800, a relocation payment of $550, and an annual research allowance of $1,500.

In memory of the late Sir James McNeill, who had a long association with Monash University, the Sir James McNeill Postgraduate Research Scholarship (SJMN) was established. It is supported by a private trust. Sir James McNeill Postgraduate Research Scholarship – Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the Sir James McNeill Postgraduate Research Scholarship:

  • English is a required language.
  1. IELTS minimum criteria for the General category are (6.5) overall (no band lower than 6.0) and (79+). The TOEFL has three sections: reading, listening, and writing.
  2. IELTS standards for arts, business, and economics are (7) overall with no band lower than 6.5 and (94+). Writing 24, Speaking 20, and Reading 19 on the TOEFL.
  • All nations in the world are eligible.
    • Australian permanent resident
    • Australian humanitarian visa holder
    • An International student
    • A New Zealand citizen
    • An Australian citizen.
  • You may check the requirements for admission to a research master’s program here.
  • Possess credentials that, in the eyes of GRC, are similar.
  • Scholarships are given out based on the academic record, research output, and past research experience of the candidate.
  • Has not held a Postgraduate Research Award supported by Monash or the Australian Government for more than six months in the past.
  • Have filled out an application for a scholarship this year.
  • Be conducting research that is both ethical in the way it affects the environment and useful to society.

  • A testamur, degree certificate, or official transcript from the university that granted the degree, together with information on the grading structure.

  • Proof that you fulfill the standards for English language competence.
