About Harvard University and Scholarship

Private Ivy League research institution Harvard University is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in the United States. It is now one of the most prominent colleges in the world thanks to its stature, riches, and influence.

Recent PhD holders as well as social science doctorate candidates are eligible for this program. The Harvard Academy for International and Area Studies’ Academy Scholars Program seeks out and supports outstanding scholars who are just beginning their academic careers and whose work combines excellence in a social science discipline with a command of the language and knowledge or expertise of nations or regions outside of the United States or Canada. Their research should cross traditional disciplinary boundaries and clarify comparative, global, or domestic problems from the past or the present.

Are you interested and eligible? Log in or register for the scholarship here. The completed application will contain:

  • Curriculum vitae (CV), with publications listed
  • Research proposal including conceptual goals, proposed methodologies, and planned disciplinary work, limited to 2000 words.
  • One piece of academic writing of no more than 50 pages in length, such as a chapter from a Ph.D. dissertation or an article from an academic publication with a peer review
  • a copy of the transcript from your Ph.D. program
  • Three recommendation letters must be immediately and privately uploaded to the online application before September 22, 2023.

The three letters of recommendation are one of the many components of the application that must be provided online in pdf format. On the homepage of The Harvard Academy’s website, there is an APPLY ONLINE link that will take you to the online application.

The deadline for receiving everything is September 22, 2023. The selection procedure then starts. Lacking documents will prevent the Selection Committee from giving an applicant a favorable evaluation. The results will be revealed in December 2023.

Bibliographies, footnotes, and endnotes are all optional but can be incorporated into your proposed research statement. If references are included, they will not count toward the research statement’s 2000-word limit.

Regarding transcripts from foreign institutions: The university reviewers review a lot of applications from students attending foreign institutions, so they ask for as much official documentation that looks like a transcript as your university’s registrar can provide for all graduate work, including any Master’s or Ph.D. programs you have previously completed or are currently enrolled in. Your school most likely gets such requests frequently and might provide you with the relevant paperwork upon request.

Questions should be emailed to: applicationinquiries@wcfia.harvard.edu. You can also visit the official website for further details.

The Application Deadline is: September 22, 2023
