About the University of Cambridge and Scholarship
In Cambridge, England, there is a public college research institution known as the University of Cambridge. Having been established in 1209, Cambridge University is the third-oldest institution still in existence. Following the arrival of professors who had defected from the Institution of Oxford to Cambridge as a result of a dispute with the locals, the institution was founded. Although they are frequently referred to be rivals, the two traditional English universities share plenty of characteristics and are together referred to as Oxbridge.
The institution received a royal charter from King Henry III 22 years after it was founded in 1231. Two of the eight cultural and scientific museums within the university are the Fitzwilliam Museum and the Cambridge University Botanic Garden. Nine million of the 16 million volumes stored in Cambridge’s 116 libraries—the largest academic library in the world and the legal deposit library—are at Cambridge University Library, the city’s legal deposit library.
The University of Cambridge is consistently ranked among the top five universities in the world, and at times has even been dubbed the best university in the whole world. The University of Cambridge is now ranked first in Europe and second best in the world by QS Rankings, trailing only MIT. According to ARWU, Cambridge is the fourth-best university in the world as of 2023, behind Harvard, Stanford, and MIT.
Cambridge is ranked third best in the world (tied with Stanford) in Times Higher Education’s 2023 rankings, just behind Oxford and Harvard. The University of Cambridge is ranked among the top five in the majority of worldwide and UK league tables. For the academic years 2010–11 and 2011–12, it was ranked as the best university in the world by the QS World University Rankings.
