About Edith Cowan University

In Western Australia, there is a public institution called Edith Cowan University (ECU). The first university in Australia to have a female name is named in honor of Edith Cowan, the first woman to be elected to the Australian parliament. It became a university in 1991 after being created from the union of several tertiary institutions, the earliest of which, the Claremont Teachers College, was founded in 1902. As such, it is the current descendant of the first higher institution in Western Australia.

Over 300 courses are available at the university’s two Joondalup and Mount Lawley campuses in the Perth metropolitan area, as well as at its regional campus in Bunbury, which is located 200 kilometers (120 miles) south of Perth. Many of the courses are also available online. To undertake courses and programs abroad, the university also maintains relationships with several academic institutions. Over 31,000 undergraduate and graduate students attended the institution in 2020, with over 7,000 of them coming from abroad.

ECU is also ranked as one of the top 94 young colleges under 50 in The Times Higher Education’s (THE) ranking of the world’s top institutions. More than 31,000 students attend ECU for both undergraduate and graduate degrees. Each year, ECU enrolls more than 6,000 foreign students who come from more than 100 different nations.
