Application is now open for the University of Birmingham Postgraduate Progression Award. Interested applicants are encouraged to send in their applications before the deadline date.

About the University of Birmingham and Award

The University of Birmingham, colloquially known as Birmingham University, stands as a distinguished public research institution in Birmingham, England. Its rich history traces back to 1825 with the establishment of the Birmingham School of Medicine and Surgery, evolving through subsequent mergers, including the founding of Mason Science College in 1875 by Sir Josiah Mason. In 1900, the university achieved a significant milestone by receiving its royal charter, succeeding Queen’s College and Mason Science College. This marked the university as the first English civic or ‘red brick’ university to obtain its royal charter and the inaugural English unitary university.

For the fiscal year 2022–23, the University of Birmingham reported an annual income of £909.1 million, with £196.7 million derived from research grants and contracts. Its commitment to research excellence was evident in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework, where the university ranked equal 13th out of 129 institutions based on grade point average, a notable improvement from the previous ranking of 31st in 2014.

The university demonstrates a dedication to fostering the educational journey of its students, evident in the open applications for final-year undergraduate students intending to pursue postgraduate-taught degrees in the 2024-2025 academic year. The University of Birmingham Postgraduate Progression Award presents a fee discount of £1,500 for these progressing undergraduate students. This initiative aims to support and encourage students who have chosen to continue their academic journey within the familiar and enriching environment of the University of Birmingham.

As a Birmingham graduate, students availing themselves of this opportunity gain access to the institution’s extensive resources, facilities, and support networks. Being one of the UK’s Top 15 universities, the University of Birmingham assures its graduates of dedicated well-being and career support, a vibrant community, and valuable resources to aid in their continued development. The tuition fee discounts extended to progressing undergraduate students signify the university’s gratitude for their decision to pursue postgraduate studies within its academic community, reinforcing its commitment to their ongoing success.
