About Regent’s University London and Scholarship
Regent’s University London has a unique and storied history that intertwines with the legacy of the University of London’s Bedford College. In 1984, Rockford College, Illinois, now known as Rockford University, acquired the former South Villa Estate campus of Bedford College in Regent’s Park, naming the new institution Regent’s College. This historic site, initially leased by Bedford College in 1908, saw the opening of new buildings
by architect Basil Champneys in 1913, with the honor of being inaugurated by Queen Mary. Over the years, these buildings underwent modifications and additions, especially after sustaining damage during the Second World War.
The evolution of Regent’s College took a significant turn in 1985 when Bedford College merged with Royal Holloway College, another institution within the University of London. Subsequently, Bedford College relocated to Royal Holloway’s campus in Egham, Surrey, vacating the premises in Regent’s Park. This paved the way for Regent’s College to expand, welcoming the European Business School London to its campus in 1987.
Regent’s University London has since become a hub for diverse academic pursuits, offering a wide array of courses in business, liberal arts, fashion design, and marketing. As of February 2022, undergraduate course fees range from approximately £18,500 to £21,000 per annum, reflecting the institution’s commitment to providing quality education.
In September 2020, Regent’s University London entered a new chapter when it was acquired by Galileo Global Education. This strategic move positioned Regents as part of Galileo’s extensive network, which spans 80 campuses and 42 institutions across 13 countries worldwide. This network includes prestigious institutions such as the Paris School of Business in France, Instituto de Estudios Universitarios in Mexico, Macromedia University in Germany, and Istituto Marangoni in both Italy and the United Kingdom.
A notable collaboration emerged with renowned Fulbright Scholar Robert McKee, a sought-after screenwriting lecturer with three decades dedicated to educating and mentoring writers internationally. McKee expressed enthusiasm about partnering with Regent’s University London, emphasizing the importance of giving a voice to talented writers from diverse backgrounds who may remain unnurtured and unheard. His impact is evident in the success of his former students, boasting over 60 Academy Award winners, 200 Academy Award nominees, 200 Emmy Award winners, 1000 Emmy Award nominees, 100 Writers Guild of America (WGA) Award winners, 250 WGA Award nominees, 50 Directors Guild of America (DGA) Award winners, and 100 DGA Award nominees.
Regent’s University London, with its rich history, diverse academic offerings, and global collaborations, continues to be a dynamic institution fostering creativity and excellence in education.
