UQ is also a founding member of the Group of Eight (Go8), a coalition of top research universities in Australia, and a member of Universities Australia, a national advocacy group representing the country’s universities.
Teaching excellence is a central focus at UQ, evident in the numerous Australian Awards for University Teaching (AAUT) it has received, surpassing all other universities in the nation. The university attracts high-achieving students, including the majority of Queensland’s top academic performers, as well as outstanding students from other regions, and international scholars.
UQ offers students opportunities for personal development and skill enhancement, allowing them to recognize and articulate the capabilities and attributes they acquire through these experiences. This prepares them to become leaders in their chosen fields and to make a positive impact on society and their communities.
The Kingshott Cassidy Poetry Award, established in 2010, is sustained by a bequest from the estate of Dorothy Susan Cassidy. Dorothy Susan Cassidy, who completed her Bachelor of Arts in 1980 and her Master of Arts in 1986, has left a lasting legacy through this award.
