About the University of Technology Sydney and Scholarship
The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) is a public university dedicated to supporting the economic, social, and cultural well-being of its communities. UTS emphasizes the success of its students, staff, and partners and is committed to research, innovation, and the dissemination of knowledge with public value. Inclusivity is a core value of UTS.
The university offers a culturally diverse campus life and provides vibrant international exchange, study, and research programs. UTS prepares its graduates for contemporary and future workplaces. Its campus is located in the heart of Sydney’s creative and digital precinct, adjacent to the city’s central business district.
The research project described involves the study of planktonic bacteria and their essential roles in regulating the health and functionality of aquatic ecosystems. The research aims to uncover previously overlooked interactions between aquatic bacteria and understand the chemical exchanges, behavioral mechanisms, and ecosystem-level effects of these interactions. The project is expected to offer a fresh perspective on how bacterial symbioses impact the well-being of crucial aquatic ecosystems, including oceans, rivers, and lakes.
This research project is based within the Ocean Microbes Group (OMG), a part of the Climate Change Cluster (C3) at UTS. The OMG focuses on investigating the ecological and biogeochemical functions of marine microbes. C3, an institute with UTS’s “research strength,” is home to 90 researchers and provides a dynamic environment along with extensive field and laboratory equipment and research infrastructure accessible to the successful candidate throughout the project.
